To become a congressional candidate, I was required to complete a document, have it formally acknowledged by two US Citizens residing within the Congressional District I sought to represent, ensure it was notarized, and deliver it to the Secretary of State’s office by the Campaign Filing Deadline. Subsequently, I was obligated to register with the IRS for fundraising purposes and with the Federal Election Commission.
Consequently, on the day of the deadline, I appeared before a notary public with the two aforementioned individuals who attested to my candidacy. I then transported the document by car to Frankfort, KY (a journey of approximately 27 minutes), proceeded to the Secretary of State's office, signed in, and waited to be called. Within 10 minutes, I was summoned, presented my completed paperwork and a check, and the documents were scanned, and payment was accepted. I promptly returned to my vehicle, drove back to my office in time for my afternoon appointment. By the end of the day, I completed online registration with both the IRS and the FEC, obtaining both a Tax ID number and a Candidate ID number, thereby officially becoming a candidate for US Congress.
I present this experience for a singular reason: we could adapt this same process and its requirements for any undocumented resident and, literally within a single day, transition an undocumented individual to a documented person. This proposed paperwork would necessitate acknowledgment by two citizens who possess personal knowledge of the individual, be notarized, and submitted to either a state or federal government agency. Furthermore, the individual would be directed to two websites: one to secure a valid identification number for employment and tax purposes (similar to a Social Security Number, but a specialized ID for newly documented persons), and a second to register with the federal government to obtain an identification ID used for pending citizenship.
This constitutes a five-part system designed to address this crisis, creating the optimal pathway to citizenship by requiring the identification of an actual location and the acknowledgment of the person's character, location, and other relevant details by two legal citizens. The documentation would be presented to the state of residence and subsequently followed up by two federal agencies. This process is clearly achievable in one day, technically in less than a few hours.
Secondly, I wish to remind all constituents that undocumented persons are ineligible for state Medicaid and Medicare. Despite this, a record number of these individuals collectively contribute nearly $100 Billion in taxes and generate approximately $1.7 Trillion in economic activity.
Thirdly, I urge everyone to consider the implications if we were to forfeit the $100 Billion in taxes: the American people, specifically the middle and lower classes, would bear the burden of making up the deficit. Furthermore, the loss of $1.7 Trillion in spending by these documented persons would significantly impact our economy and labor force, potentially costing jobs due to reduced demand for products or services. Again, the economic consequences would fall upon working American families and individuals.
It is imperative to understand the current Administration and Congress's expenditure of tax dollars. How does the problem improve when fewer resources are available for assistance? How is it beneficial to incur greater costs while realizing less revenue? How does our economy prosper when a viable solution involves inclusion rather than denial?
Therefore, rectifying this problem is not inherently difficult. Allowing a pathway for those contributing to our economy, rather than enabling a situation that drains our prosperity and reduces the fundamental American Dream to a mere memory, is the solution. The true impediment lies with the leadership of this country, which appears more concerned with maintaining control than with the welfare of hard-working Americans and those here striving for their own American dream.
We possess the ability to fix this, but then the opportunity to control and exploit public fears would dissipate. The inappropriate individuals occupying positions in Washington D.C. and ruthless Billionaires are seemingly more apprehensive about potential personal losses than about the collective gains we could achieve.
These are verifiable truths, and I am committed to the truth and advocating for a transparent government, as opposed to one controlled by a select few who exploit fear. We must hold our leadership accountable, and I ask that you hold me accountable, as I am dedicated to serving Kentucky and our nation. My oath to the Constitution is also my commitment to the truth of “we the people.”
Consequently, I respectfully request your vote, your demand for accountability, and your assistance in restoring the integrity of the office I seek election to, and helping to restore trust in our government that has been undeniably eroded, returning it to the people and for the people.
