 Immigration and Reform

Our nation is currently grappling with a profoundly broken system, one that has failed to uphold the core values of justice and human dignity. While I acknowledge the imperative to secure our communities and prevent hardened criminals from running rampant in our streets, and while I support the foundational principle of a regulated immigration process, I stand in unwavering opposition to the current formulation, practices, and very existence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as it is currently constituted.

The actions carried out under the guise of this agency are not merely regrettable or unfortunate; they constitute illegal practices, a systematic pattern of mistreatment that is morally wrong, and a deliberate, egregious abuse of power. The human cost of this unchecked authority is devastating, culminating in the criminal murder of innocent people. The original principle that may have informed its creation has been utterly corrupted. The agency's purpose is not the reckless implementation of arbitrary rules, nor is its current tyrannical structure—fueled by bias, hatred, and fables—a necessary component of a secure and just nation.

I fundamentally believe in the transformative power and essential purpose of immigration. We must create and maintain clear, accessible, and humane pathways to citizenship. Our doors should be open to those in genuine need, to those who seek nothing more than a better life, and to all individuals willing to contribute their hard work and become productive, integrated members of our society. The historical truth of the United States is undeniable: we are a nation founded on and meticulously built by successive waves of immigrants. Lady Liberty has stood for generations as a luminous beacon of hope to countless men, women, and children from every corner of the globe, welcoming people of every culture and nationality to our shores—the poor, the weary, the lost, and the dreamers who yearn for freedom and opportunity.

It is a moral and civic duty for all Americans to stand together now. We must keep the sacred promise made by our forefathers—a promise of liberty and justice for all. This requires us to exercise our collective power to restructure and reform the existing laws. The urgent need for this change is evident to all who observe the system. We require the brave, unified voices of our citizens to demand and support the comprehensive legislative changes necessary for a truly just system.

As your next member of Congress, I am not merely committed to these principles; I pledge to actively address and support meaningful legislation that will achieve two critical, interconnected goals: effectively securing our borders through modern, humane methods, and simultaneously opening clear, efficient, and dignified pathways to citizenship. By doing so, we will keep the promise of Lady Liberty alive, reaffirming the enduring American ideal, and helping to ensure that the United States remains a strong, vibrant, and moral nation for the next 250 years and beyond.

The Imperative for Universal Healthcare: A Call for Comprehensive Reform.

The current state of healthcare in the United States underscores a critical and urgent need for a universal healthcare system. While the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has provided a necessary measure of relief, extending coverage to millions and offering protection against some of the most predatory practices of the insurance industry, it remains a fragile and incomplete solution. The persistent anxiety felt by families and individuals regarding the potential rollback or dismantling of this legislation—as evidenced by past government shutdowns and the subsequent, temporary legislative fixes—highlights the fundamental instability of our existing model. The health and wellness of the American people should not be held hostage by political machinations or depend on last-minute, partisan compromises. A system that requires "backroom dealings" to remain operational is not a sustainable model for a developed nation. We have repeatedly applied a temporary "band-aid" to a systemic wound, delaying the necessary, permanent, and comprehensive change.

Uniting the Nation Through a Standardized, Equitable System

What is unequivocally required is a universal healthcare plan that protects every American citizen, irrespective of employment status, income, or pre-existing conditions. Such a system would achieve several vital goals. Foremost, it would unify the nation under a single standard of care, ensuring that healthcare is treated as a human right, not a market commodity. By bringing the collective purchasing power of the American people to the negotiating table, a universal system could effectively challenge the concentrated power of pharmaceutical companies ("Big Pharma") and other massive players in the healthcare industry.

The existence of Medicare serves as a powerful and established proof-of-concept. This program, though subject to political debate and wavering support over the years, has consistently met the fundamental healthcare needs of our most vulnerable populations—seniors and individuals with disabilities. Its operational framework demonstrates that a standardized, government-administered healthcare system is not only feasible but also capable of providing widespread coverage and stability. Expanding and modernizing a program built on the principles of Medicare to cover all Americans is the most logical and equitable path forward.

Confronting the Crisis of Prescription Drug Costs

One of the most egregious failures of the current market-driven system is the astronomical cost of prescription drugs. These costs are often prohibitive, rendering life-saving medications unaffordable for countless families. This crisis is not an accident; it is a direct consequence of a system beholden to the whims of pharmaceutical manufacturers and insurance companies. "Big Pharma" has proven to be an adversary of public health, prioritizing unprecedented profit margins over the well-being of the population.

This pursuit of profit at any cost was tragically exemplified by the opioid crisis, the greatest drug epidemic in the nation's history. It was corporate greed, not a lapse in medical ethics, that fueled this catastrophe, with manufacturers knowingly pushing addictive substances onto the public for financial gain. A universal system must include robust mechanisms to regulate drug pricing, break the monopoly power of these corporations, and ensure that the cost of necessary medicine reflects its true value, not the inflated demands of shareholders.

Aligning Industry with Public Interest

The American healthcare industry is a massive economic force, generating revenues in the trillions of dollars. However, this colossal industry has largely become misaligned with its stated purpose: patient care. It functions primarily as a profit machine, creating a complex, bureaucratic, and often punitive system for patients and providers alike.

A nation divided by access to health, where the wealthy receive world-class care while millions face medical bankruptcy or inadequate treatment, is a nation fundamentally struggling to live up to its ideals. The time has come for a decisive shift: the multi-trillion-dollar healthcare apparatus must either fundamentally reorient its priorities to align with the genuine needs of the people or be replaced entirely. The most direct replacement is a universal healthcare and prescription care system—a people's care system—that removes the profit motive from essential human well-being and finally delivers the stability, equity, and comprehensive care that all Americans deserve.

 Economy: Reclaiming the American Promise

The current economic system is demonstrably fractured, a complex machine broken down and dismantled piece by piece. We are all unwilling witnesses to a profound failure: the collapse of effective checks and balances, the dismantling of equal taxation, the perpetuation of biased credit and lending practices, and the alarming concentration of power held by the top one percent—a power used to manage and control the economic destiny of the other ninety-nine percent. This disparity is not merely an inconvenience; it is a fundamental injustice that erodes the foundation of a fair society.

The Call for Systemic Reform

I am committed to a comprehensive overhaul of our economic structure, beginning with a deep reform of our law code and regulatory framework. Our primary objective must be to fiercely defend and re-establish genuine equality within the economic system. This pursuit requires a paradigm shift, starting with the institutions that hold the most sway over our financial future.

We must institute a truly fair, unbiased, and uninfluenced Federal Reserve, an institution that serves the entire nation's economy, not the interests of a powerful few. Concurrently, we need a tax system that is designed to pay the way for sustainable and robust national economic growth. The purpose of taxation must be to invest in the collective future of the nation, not to create further mechanisms for lining the pockets of the already excessively wealthy. The notion that a thriving nation cannot simultaneously achieve shared independence and financial freedoms for all its citizens is a false dichotomy. A nation and its people can achieve economic freedom, foster widespread wealth, and sustain a thriving economy while ensuring these benefits are distributed equitably.

The Dignity of Work and the Living Wage

Central to this economic reimagining is the immediate and universal recognition that a living wage is not a negotiable policy point—it is an economic necessity and a moral imperative. It is not a handout, nor is it a mechanism for fostering dependence or hopelessness. Quite the opposite: a living wage is an opportunity for individual growth, advancement, and a powerful aid in restoring the dignity of every person who works hard and pays their fair share. It is the critical threshold that allows a working individual to not just survive, but to have the realistic opportunity to put a little back, to save, and to invest in their future.

The aspirational core of the American Dream—the ability to own a home, the security of a parent being able to save enough to genuinely help their child with education or a down payment, and the promise of a secure and dignified retirement—is now out of reach for too many. We have arrived at a tragic point where millions of Americans, who should be enjoying their golden years, are forced to continue working well past retirement age, simply because they cannot bridge the gap between the cost of living and the cost of actually living. The crisis is starkest when families are forced to make impossible, heartbreaking choices: torn between affording food and necessary medicine, or between paying rent and securing childcare. When these choices become common, the entire economic structure is fundamentally broken.

Prioritizing People Over Privilege

Our policy decisions must reflect a clear commitment to the vast majority of working Americans. We do not need to create more friction with our global partners through arbitrary tariffs against our allies or neighbors; such measures primarily destabilize markets and harm consumers. Critically, we must halt the practice of issuing further tax breaks for the rich of the rich—the wealthiest elite who already benefit disproportionately from the system. Similarly, we must actively dismantle laws and regulations that exclusively protect the elite and the fortunate at the direct expense of the hard-working men and women who drive our economy forward.

What is required is a system built on a new principle: one that reliably covers the fundamental human needs, allows for the promise of advancement and prosperity, and actively secures the financial future of every individual and family. The economy must cease to be a structure that harbors only the rich and secures the fortune of the privileged few. It must become a broad, stable platform where the rewards of labor are shared, opportunity is accessible to all, and the nation's success is measured by the well-being and financial security of its many citizens, not the accumulated wealth of its few billionaires.
